I've sent another installment of Up on a Soapbox to Matthew at the DRAGON. It's a short recounting of Gronan's crocadile pit adventure. I'm crafting a couple of more as well, both having to do with Robilar's adventures.

A Quick FYI
Because of considerable urging by gamers, after the series concludes in about 12 months or so (when ideas are exhausted) we plan to compile all the "Up on a Soapbox" columns pertaining to adventures and publish them in a small book. Rob and I will add some other old material that's been published elsewhere, some new tales too for sweeteners. Cheers, Gary |

Oh, thank Cram and Mirthless! I was dreading the idea of continuing to pay six bucks for a page or two.

Gronan,
Cran? You mean have deserted the Great Spider? Unbelievingly, Gary |

I'm not saying the Great Spider wasn't part of my youth, but greatest loyalty went to the big "C", and I don't mean Cthulhu.
Besides, you know about barbarians and big spiders (cf "Tower of the Elephant"). Gronan

Re: Up on a Soapbox | ||

Ahhh... I remember that! It was the imprisonment of Yag-Kosher by the evil Celt wizard, O'Yara. Gronan had to find the "Fart of the Elephant"--a "gassly" artifact--in order to free Yag. And there was a 'swinging' spider in the tower (he had his own bachelor pad and everything!) that liked to munch on thieves. But that spider was no relative to Yezundheit, the Great Sneezing Spider! ^__^

I thought it was the "Hylybored Age", myself.
Ah, those days of youth, wandering through the frozen realms of Ashpan, Varnishedham, and Hyperventilate, adjoining my homeland of Simmerya... Not to mention Aquiphobia, proudest kingdom of the West... Zoombooby and Placekik down south... Gush and Undir... Cornerland... Turnip, ruled by King Pulyerbeard... Sigh. Such memories. Gronan

Ah. Gary was double-teamed by the Swine-Swillin' posters from the Abyss! You have to take care, EGG, when these two
quaffers are about. They'll change the latitide and longitude of even a heavily starched subject. REH is no doubt rolling over in his grave. Which reminds me about something serious here (OH MY GOD!). What is one's favorite Conan REH story (not the novel) and why? Whoever posts first, start it as a new topic. |

Up on a Soapbox question.... | ||

As someone new to the website, and not a recent subscriber to Dragon Magazine, the Up on a Soapbox column might well be my one reason for buying the magazine.
How long have you and Gary been contributing (when did the column first appear) ? Thanks! |
